Hey all. Today we are going to talk about breeding in BDSM.
We will learn more about what it is and isn’t and its risks and benefits.
Let’s dive right in.
Key Takeaways
- Breeding involves depositing actual or simulated bodily fluids into your partner.
- Couples of every gender and sexuality can engage in breeding.
- Breeding is high-risk since it involves unprotected sexual contact between partners.
What is Breeding in BDSM?
Breeding gets very little attention.
While the definition is simple enough: to engage in sexual activity to cause impregnation, the reality is much more complex.
Let’s take a closer look at the reality of what breeding is and isn’t, as well as why it tends to stay in the taboo section of our kinks and fetishes list.
What Breeding Looks Like in Practice
At its very core, breeding is about unprotected sexual contact. The end goal of breeding in BDSM is not actually to create a pregnancy, although the language and scene would indicate it is.Â
Breeding may be paired with other kinks or fetishes, but it also stands alone quite well. Popular pairings can include Animal Play, Bondage, and Master/slave, to list a few. These can add extra excitement to the scene for those who need it extra spicy.
“Bondage and discipline involve the use of physical restraints or verbal commands by one person to control the other.”
by Hyde; DeLamater; McGraw-Hill Education, 2016
from Ebook: Understanding Human Sexuality
The verbalizations of you and your partner during the scene can add great excitement to a Breeding scene. Saying “put a baby in my belly” or “I’m going to fill you with my seed” creates realism even when pregnancy is not an actual risk.
Breeding Across Gender and Sexuality Lines
While actual breeding requires a male and female participant, when we talk about it as a kink or fetish, we talk about Role Play. The idea is creating the fantasy, not creating offspring.
There are couples of every sort, male-female, male-male, and female-female, who all engage in Breeding. Breeding looks slightly different in each scenario, but the storyline stays the same.
The Special Risks Involved With BDSM Breeding
Breeding is especially risky because it involves the exchange of bodily fluids.
“Semen, also called seminal fluid, is a mixture of sperm cells and secretions.”

from Quick & Easy Medical Terminology – E-Book
While steps can be taken to help prevent pregnancy, we must never forget that no form of birth control is 100% effective. This could be a very long-term and costly reminder of a play date.
Any form of unprotected sexual contact increases the risk of sexually transmitted infections, also known as STIs. These risks include Herpes, Syphilis, and HIV, among others. Other health risks come with unprotected sex, such as an increased risk of yeast infections.
“If you are having sex with a new partner, always, always, always use protection.”

What Breeding Isn’t
Breeding fetishes are not at all the same thing as a pregnancy kink. Creating a scene that revolves around the idea of impregnating your partner and getting pregnant is very different.
While there are people who have both, many people only have one or the other. It is also worth pointing out that all unprotected sex is not Breeding. It is about the whole scene, not just fluid exchange.
Why Breed?
There are plenty of reasons you may want to give Breeding a try. The idea of leaving such a clear stamp of I was here, and this is mine can be very exciting.
When you add aspects such as Animal Play, breeding can become about establishing your place in the Pack. Breeding also creates a level of humiliation that few other acts can compare to when added to a cuckold dynamic.
Personal Experiences With Breeding
I am the type who is willing to try almost anything once and a few times if it’s fun, so I have engaged in Breeding. This is something that I have done both in real life and, more often, virtually.
I know virtually seems wrong because we have discussed that the actual depositing of bodily fluids is a significant component. Still, many people find ways to engage in many activities with a screen and a keyboard.
I know that my engagement in Breeding activity has been lower risk than for many because, as I have mentioned before, I generally stay in monogamous relationships. I also get tested regularly for STIs when involved in non-monogamous relationships. Safety first always!
Advantages & Disadvantages of Breeding
Advantages of Breeding
- Lets you engage in Role Play because it is more about fantasy than conception.
- Allows you to feel your partner differently than the protected sex because there is no barrier between you and them.
- Can create a deep sense of connection between partners because of the verbalizations involved in the scene.
Disadvantages of Breeding
- Increases the risk of STIs because of engaging in unprotected sex.
- Can lead to yeast infections and other health issues due to the changes caused in PH levels when exchanging bodily fluids.
- May create a risk of pregnancy when done using a Male/female dynamic because no method of contraception is 100% effective.
What’s Next?
When we talk about Breeding in BDSM, it is essential to make sure both you and your partner are free from STIs. And, yes, that’s always a good idea, but with unprotected sex, it becomes a much bigger issue.
“A sexually transmitted disease (STD), also called sexually transmitted infection (STI), is one that may be acquired as a result of sexual contact with a person who has the disease or with secretions containing the suspected organism.”
by Peggy C. Leonard; Elsevier, 2014
from Building a Medical Vocabulary: With Spanish Translations
Every scene needs to start with communication. Before engaging in sexual contact that does not use protection, this is even more crucial. Make sure you and your partner both want to engage in this sort of Role Play and that you have a plan to handle unexpected consequences.
And, as always, with all BDSM activities, make sure you trust your partner and have a safe word!
BDSM Breeding FAQs
Since I set the scene as the Dom, can’t I force my partner to breed?
You should never expose yourself or your partner to the risks of unprotected sex without first discussing it. It would be best if you were on board with accepting all the possible risks associated with Breeding activities.
I am a Dominant female with submissive male partners. Can we still engage in Breeding?
Of course, you can. While I try to clarify if there is a more common or typical dynamic to a specific type of play, I also say do what works for you and your partner.
What steps can I take to lower the risks involved in breeding?
Breeding within a monogamous relationship lowers your risk. You can also use simulation as opposed to actual Breeding or even verbalize the fantasy while using protection.
